 Surgery & Anesthesia

Best Friends Animal Hospital is equipped to perform most surgical procedures ranging from spays and neuters to soft tissue surgeries to more complicated issues.

A comprehensive physical examination is performed on all animals the day of their procedure. Pre-anesthetic blood testing is strongly recommended for all patients undergoing surgery.  This testing is essential in helping the veterinarian thoroughly evaluate your pet prior to anesthesia.

Every precaution is taken for your pet’s safety, health, and comfort.  We offer the latest in anesthesia and pain management protocols in order to provide your pet with a safe and pain-free surgical experience.  All of our patients are monitored by the latest in electronic, multi-parameter data equipment.  At Best Friends Animal Hospital, we are committed to minimizing discomfort and providing a positive experience for your pet.

Dentistry

Dental disease is the most common health issue among pets across the country.  In its early stages, it can cause oral pain and discomfort, but if dental disease is left untreated, it becomes even more serious.  Regular dental exams and routine at-home dental care help maintain your pet’s oral hygiene, preventing serious health issues and complications.

Periodontal disease affects the mouth, gums, and teeth, and advanced dental disease significantly impacts your pet’s quality of life.  Oral pain can also make it difficult for your pet to eat.  If dental disease is left untreated, bacteria can enter your pet’s bloodstream and cause serious complications in the heart, kidneys, and liver.  Most periodontal disease can be prevented through daily home care and professional cleanings.  If you suspect your pet may need dental care, schedule an appointment with our office today

IN-HOUSE DIAGNOSTICS

Our hospital is pleased to offer your pet a wide variety of in-house diagnostics. Our hospital's latest analyzers allow us to diagnose endocrine abnormalities, hematologic issues, and diseases of internal organs. We provide testing for heartworm disease, multiple tick-borne diseases, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline leukemia virus (FeLV), canine parvo virus, and internal parasite screenings.

Digital radiography is a featured service offered at Best Friends Animal Hospital.  Benefits of digital radiography include shorter times on the x-ray table in order to take the image, a digital picture of the problem area in seconds, and the ability to email the image to a specialized radiologist if necessary.

We also have access to certified outside laboratories and pathologists when needed.  We work closely with surrounding specialists to ensure quality referral care when cases warrant.

Nutritional Counseling

A nutrient-rich diet is your pet’s first line of defense against many diseases and other health problems.  Proper daily nutrition supports healthy growth and aging. The right food can boost your pet’s immune system, improve digestive health, fight or prevent obesity, and increase skin, coat, and hair health.  Every pet’s nutritional needs are different, so feeding can be more complicated that it seems.  We are happy to help you with your pet’s nutritional needs.

Average dogs and cats that eat balanced, nutrient-rich diets may not need additional dietary supplements.  However, some pets, particularly aging or overweight pets, may benefit from taking regular supplements.  We may recommend the following supplements, depending on your pet’s needs:

  • Fatty acids for healthy skin and coats
  • Probiotics for balanced digestive systems
  • Joint Supplements

K-Laser Therapy

What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red and near-infrared) to stimulate the body’s natural ability to heal.  The effects of laser energy include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation, and decreased swelling.

During K-Laser Therapy, infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level increasing metabolic activity within the cell.  By improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane, the increased production of cellular energy (ATP) is stimulated.  The cascade of beneficial effects that follows includes increased cellular function and tissue repair.

Ten Benefits of Laser Therapy:

  • Stimulation of Trigger Points and Acupuncture Points
  • Reduced Fibrous Tissue Formation
  • Improved Nerve Function
  • Immunoregulation
  • Faster Wound Healing
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effect
  • Analgesic Effect
  • Accelerated Tissue Repair and Cell Growth
  • Improved Vascular Activity
  • Increases Metabolic Activity

Microchipping

Thousands of pets go missing every year, and many don’t make it back home.  Even collars and identification tags may not be enough to protect your pet.  Microchips are safe, simple forms of identification.

A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is placed underneath your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades.  Microchip implantation takes only a few minutes and is very safe.  Your pet’s microchip carries identification information about your pet, including your name, address, and contact information.

Best Friends Animal Hospital believes microchipping is the safest, most effective method of pet recovery available.  To learn more about the benefits of microchips or to schedule an appointment to have your pet microchipped, please contact our office today!
